There have been only two owners of Newcastle Bookshop. The business was founded in 1977 by Brian Mills, who had formerly been a lecturer in film studies at the city's Polytechnic (now the University of Northumbria).
In 1992 Brian returned to his native Derbyshire (where he continues to produce his scholarly and witty catalogues) and I bought the business from him.
Until May 2002 the shop was located near the Quayside, in the historic heart of the city.

Since moving to Haltwhistle Newcastle Bookshop now has a well equiped bindery where we restore books, make new/designer books and even publish poetry. We also produce music scores with David Pinder who has worked as a music engraver for over 30 years for several music publishing companies including Hansen's (Denmark).
A local writer, Ian Chilvers, expressed his gratitude to the shop in the introduction to his Oxford Dictionary of 20th-Century Art (1998) -"Newcastle Bookshop has supplied me with many books that I could not otherwise have obtained" - and numerous other customers have made similar kind remarks.
Opening Times 1 April to 31 October Open Thurs, Fri & Sat 11-4
1 Nov to 31 March I will now be working full time in our bindery, which is at the back of the shop. If you have books to be repaired or to pick up or if you just want to browse please ring the bell or try my mobile 07814618669
